Camping Quinta das Cegonhas
Quinta das Cegonhas is an old Portuguese estate, located on the edge of the Natural Park Serra da Estrela, in the center of Portugal. It is a terraced campsite with around 50 unmarked pitches. On the upper terrace is a holiday home for 6 people.
In the main building, an antique solar (= mansion) from the 17 th century are 2 rooms and 2 apartments. On the ground floor a restaurant, reception, bar and library. The restaurant is open from March to October. The cooking depends on the number of guests present. Ask for availability before arrival.
Highlights
Groceries, pharmacy, bus stop, post office, cafés and restaurant are within walking distance. In Gouveia (6 km) are supermarkets and ATMs. Many hiking trails are available via the Wikiloc app and there are also descriptions, both from the Quinta and in other parts of the nature park. It is an environment for groups, individuals and families who care about tranquility, privacy, comfort and activity.
Durability
We do our best to work in an environment friendly way.
Water: We use spring water from our own estate which is heated by solar panels.
Energy: Electricity is obtained through the designated solar panels.
Waste: is separated and the residual waste from the kitchen goes to the chickens.
Fruit: our products are processed as much as possible into various marmalades.
The olives are harvested and pressed into olive oil.
Facilities
The campsite has a natural character which means that the original planting is respected and that there is lighting where needed. Terrace with outdoor stove, outdoor kitchen and dishwashing area with hot water. The swimming pool is open from 01-06 / 15-09, sanitary facilities also with facilities for disabled visitors. An information corridor with 5 showcases in which information is provided regarding the environment. Such as walking routes, historic villages, archeological sites, nature park map with highlights, restaurants, shops and supermarkets. New in 2020: a sauna, massage room and an original wood oven. The accommodations are supplemented with 2 Pods that are placed on one of the upper terraces of the estate.
Activities
From May to mid-September there is a weekly walk on Saturday with a guide in higher parts of the Serra da Estrela Natural Park. Every second Sunday of the month there is a walk to the mountain village of Folgosinho. There is a market, where you can have a delicious lunch and get to know Portuguese culture. Excursions to a wine farm and bird project are organized for minimum 10 people. In the summer there are activities several times a week for children and young people.

After Vila Formosa (border with Spain), ca. 11 km registration with credit card. Is near a petrol station.
Route description
At the A25, N17, national route between Coimbra and Celorico da Beira, exit Melo/ Nabaínhos. Continue in this direction, also at the crossing. At the end of the road turn to the right and after 50m you enter the gate.
